County Road 142 | Medanales, NM

Located in the beautiful Chama River Valley near Abiquiu, which has long been home to native American Pueblo people and Spanish settlers, and provided inspiration for artists and nature lovers alike, this approximately 12-acre parcel has been in the same family for several hundred years. Generations of the family have used the property for livestock and agriculture. An adobe ruin on the property was once used by the family for overnight stays while they harvested crops. Water rights from the J.V. Martinez Community Ditch, a natural spring, and the Rio Chama frontage provide a source of water and habitat for wildlife, including beaver, migrating ducks and native trout. Ancient Pueblo people were drawn to this land because it offers water, clay for pottery, water palms for basket weaving and firewood. Varieties of native grasses, trees (including white cedar, red cedar, and cottonwood), deer shrubs, wild willows and chamiso blanket the acreage near the river. The bosque and open pasture land create a tranquil and peaceful setting with the natural sounds of chirping birds, running water, rustling leaves in a cool summer breeze and flocks of ducks traveling the river currents.
