Whimsical Downtown Living | Santa Barbara, CA
El Jardin is the latest project designed by Santa Barbara architect Jeff Shelton and constructed by Dan Upton Construction. This four story mixed-use building is located near the historic Presidio Neighborhood on Garden Street. The artistic and open-floor building features unobstructed views of the Riveria and the Santa Ynez Mountains, vibrant and imaginative textures, colors, and fixtures, as well as whimsical design and layout characteristic of Shelton’s creative vision. Every room is intricately designed with custom, handmade ceramic tiles, textiles, light fixtures, and door knobs that reflect the fantastical world of El Jardin. The building includes an indoor parking garage with two covered spaces as well as two offsite covered spaces, and a bright and open commercial office suite with a conference room. A two bedroom, two and a half-bath residence is topped with a rooftop patio that hosts a Jacuzzi, outdoor kitchen, and fire pit. Winding staircases and patios reminiscent of MC Escher and succulents in custom ceramic pots highlight this magical Santa Barbara Gem. Jeff Shelton is a local architect who merges Santa Barbara-style design with his own whimsical Mediterranean vision. His work is reminiscent of artistic MC Escher with winding, seemingly-endless stairs and also Dr. Suess for his fantastical use of shapes and colors. Shelton is armed with a team of local artisans, craftsmen, and builders who collaborate on his projects.
