F. Scott Fitzgerald once wrote, “there are no second acts in American lives.” Joe Fisher is proving him wrong. Joe recently joined Sotheby’s International Realty following a successful three-decade career as a marketing, advertising and public relations executive -- partnering with his wife, Sotheby’s International Realty broker, Cathleen Civale – and pursuing his lifelong interest in real estate.
Joe is a native New Yorker whose Upper East Side apartment looks out at the hospital where he was born. He knows the City - its history, its people and its neighborhoods. He was raised in Manhattan, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Fordham University and a Masters of Business Administration in Marketing at Columbia University.
After four years in the Air Force, Joe began his career in the marketing communications industry, where he became a trusted advisor to the leaders of the world’s largest corporations, governments and non-governmental organizations. In addition to holding executive positions in both advertising and public relations companies, he founded his own firm – Fisher & Company – and served as a director on various corporate and non-profit boards including the Drama League of New York and The Acting Company. Most recently, Joe was the Chief Executive Officer of Burson Marsteller, one of the world’s largest communications agencies, here in the U.S.
Joe’s passion for real estate dates back to the 1980s and was stimulated by the marketing communications work he was doing for many of the leading Manhattan real estate leaders of the period including Harry Macklowe, Fred Wilpon, Sheldon Solow, Fred DeMatteis, and Julian Studley. That experience led him to begin his own real estate development activities on the East End of Long Island where he and his wife still live, and was then encouraged as friends and business associates began seeking his advice and assistance in their own real estate activity.
Joe’s focus at Sotheby’s International Realty is top-tier residential cooperatives and condominiums in Manhattan, a subject he knows well. He draws on his own personal residential experience and board activity in three separate cooperative buildings over the past thirty years. And, he combines that with his marketing communications expertise and his network of relationships across the various communities of prospects from Wall Street to Broadway to the Corporate Sector.
Joe is a member of the Real Estate Board of New York.
