Albert Ma came from Hong Kong as a teenager to study architecture at Cornell University. After graduating, he was employed by the university for 15 years. He began as a university planner and advanced to manage their capital building program, overseeing major building projects from inception to completion.
Attracted by a newly created position at a Wall Street firm, Albert moved to New York City to be involved in the planning of the firm’s physical growth. He became the controller of their service division, with financial oversight of the departments in the division. One of the divisions he oversaw was corporate real estate which was responsible for the leasing of the 1.5 million sq. ft. New York headquarters and all domestic branch locations, as well as planning in offices in major European cities.
Eventually, Albert decided to take a break from the corporate world and transitioned his skills to residential real estate in 1994. Working with individuals, as sellers or buyers, each with their own particular needs appealed to Albert. His corporate skills give him the ability to be analytical and detail oriented when it comes to decision making and he is armed with the art of negotiation, after observing high-powered attorneys in proceedings. He is also able to utilize his architectural background to help buyers visualize hidden potential in properties.
Albert has developed strong friendships along the way with others in the industry, as well as with sellers and buyers, many who are repeat clients. To Albert, “It has been a real joy ride.”
