Although Sandra McHenry became licensed as a Texas Realtor 20 years ago, she did not concentrate on developing a successful real estate practice until joining Martha Turner Sotheby's International Realty in 1989. As a realtor associate with Martha Turner Sotheby's International Realty, McHenry lists and sells homes in Memorial, Tanglewood, River Oaks, West University and other close-in Houston neighborhoods. She is a top-producing sales associate with the company and has been honored as a member of the Martha Turner Sotheby's International Realty Circle of Excellence for many years.
"Being associated with Martha Turner Sotheby's International Realty is the perfect fit for me. It is a company that is on the cutting edge of real estate," said McHenry, a native Texan from Fort Worth who earned a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Colorado.
After graduating from college, McHenry moved to Houston in 1965 to begin teaching history to high school students. She taught at Sam Houston and Lamar high schools before quitting to rear her children. While searching for a new home for herself and husband, Adams McHenry, and their three children, McHenry became interested in becoming a Realtor.
"We were living in Briargrove and decided to look for a home in Memorial. After having so much fun searching for the right house, I wanted to get into real estate and sell homes," said McHenry. "I started selling residential properties on a part-time basis and, when my youngest child was a senior in high school, I decided it was time for me to get serious about becoming a success in my business."
Since McHenry lives in Memorial's Bunker Hill Village, she lists and sells homes there and in other villages. McHenry also maintains respect for Houston's other neighborhoods and enjoys giving clients tours of the city, along with pertinent information so they can make decisions.
Her sales have included all types of residential properties. As a member of the Junior League and having been involved in civic and charitable endeavors, McHenry has developed repeat and referral business. She is delighted to be acquiring a second generation of clients by working with the children of people she has helped previously.
If her clients are not sure about what area of Houston they want to live, McHenry will spend extra time going to different parts of the city, showing them a variety of properties in order to ascertain an understanding of the type of home they want to purchase.
"Nothing surpasses getting out there and driving the streets to get a good feel of what appeals to people. When I know the type of home and neighborhood that a client wants, I concentrate on previewing the homes on the market in the area they choose and constantly research the computer for new listings," said McHenry.
"Being service-oriented and knowing the marketplace well goes a long way in helping build the confidence of people in regard to my ability to help them buy or sell homes". - Houston Chronicle April 7, 2002
