“I face challenges head on, maintain my integrity even when it’s difficult, and know that hard work is the only way to accomplish your goals.” That’s how Jessica Baker, a sales associate with Martha Turner Sotheby’s International Realty, describes the life lessons that she learned as a cadet at the United States Military Academy at West Point, lessons that she continues to use every day.
Military life, first at West Point and then as a signal platoon leader and IT operations project manager during two tours of duty in Iraq, taught Jessica that to achieve success, there are times to be a leader and times to be a team member. “Success in real estate requires those same leadership and teamwork skills I was taught in the military,” Jessica says. “Clients look to me to lead through the process of selling or purchasing a home, a process that requires teamwork with my fellow agents in order to bring a satisfactory, positive outcome to all parties in the transaction.”
Focused and detail-oriented, Jessica handles contracts and time-sensitive transaction deadlines with ease. She is an excellent listener, works hard to understand her clients’ motivations for selling or buying a home, and always tries to anticipate clients’ needs to build their confidence and give them peace of mind.
Jessica enjoys the unexpected turns that selling residential real estate brings every day. “New people, new experiences, new challenges, and new rewards – they’re all a part of the daily process. I love working with people in so many walks of life, learning their stories and helping through a tremendous change in their lives.”
The four years at West Point and subsequent years in the military opened Jessica’s eyes to a new world of experiences, places and people, and imbedded a love of travel that she shares today with her husband. “I have had the opportunity to visit Chile, Italy, South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Russia, Turkey, and Argentina,” she says. “I love to explore new cultures and, especially, new food.”
When not working, Jessica volunteers as a member of her neighborhood HOA Social Committee. She enjoys cooking, reading, creating digital photo albums, dining out, and, not surprisingly, dreaming about where her next travels will take her. Jessica and her husband of 10 years have a young daughter who, Jessica says, “keeps us constantly on our toes.”
