Jonathan Smith, based in the Southampton office, brings more than a decade of real estate experience to every deal. He has been involved in the industry as an agent, small-scale developer and investor, giving him a unique and comprehensive perspective on the market.
The native New Yorker has been summering on the East End for forty years, making him intimately familiar with the Southampton area. Jonathan grew up on Central Park West and attended the Collegiate and Lawrenceville schools. He studied at the American University of Paris and Trinity College Dublin before graduating from Vassar College.
In his early professional life, Jonathan was a political consultant and fundraising professional, working with state and national campaigns before running for New York State Assembly in 2008. He was then recruited to lead a team of fundraisers at Vassar College as the Director of the Annual Fund. During this period, he consistently purchased, renovated and sold investment properties throughout New York City and State, in what was a passion that would lead him directly to Sotheby’s International Realty.
Since joining Sotheby’s International Realty, Jonathan has facilitated notable transactions in all price points, working successfully in all corners of the East End. In 2015, he represented over $50 million in Hamptons listings, including a $17M sale, the highest priced non-waterfront transaction in the Estate Section of Southampton Village that year. Last year, Jonathan provided knowledgeable and professional representation to buyers and sellers of distinguished properties in Southampton, Sag Harbor, East Hampton and Shelter Island, where he represented both sides in the largest residential transaction on the island in almost ten years.
Jonathan lives in Sag Harbor and on Shelter Island with his wife, Catherine, their daughter, and their Australian Shepherd “Godfrey,” and enjoys sailing, renovating historic houses and restoring classic sports cars.
