Joan Young is a 46-year resident of the Conejo Valley and was owner and president of Young Realtors, now Sotheby's International Realty. After 40 years in the business, she was designated Realtor Emeritus by the National Association of Realtors.
Her experience in the industry at all levels has provided her with an intimate knowledge of Ventura County and a unique understanding of all aspects of the real estate business. Joanie has established an excellent reputation within the real estate industry statewide, as well as with various governmental organizations and their representatives. In addition, she is recognized as a true community leader, giving freely of her time, energy and organizational expertise to improve the area's economic, social and civic fabric.
Joanie is a consummate Realtor and has played a major role in both the California Association of Realtors and the Conejo Valley Association of Realtors. She holds the highest industry designations including Graduate Realtors Institute, Certified Real Estate Brokerage Manager and Certified Residential Specialist, as well as mention in Who's Who in Luxury Real Estate and Who's Who in America. She has served her industry at the local and state levels and is a past board member and director of Real Estate Business Services, the profit side organization of the California Association of Realtors. In 1993, the Conejo Valley Association of Realtors named Joanie Realtor of the Year.
In her civic duties she was executive director of the 1997 Conejo Valley Days and a committee member of the City of Thousand Oaks 20th and 25th anniversary celebrations, and she has sat on many other committees relating to economic development, housing affordability and land planning. She has chaired the Roundtable Planned Development Committee, is a member of the Housing Affordability Task Force and in 1985 was the first woman chair of the Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce.
Other community involvements include the Alliance for the Arts, president of the Westlake Island Property Owner's Association, the Conejo Future Foundation and the California Lutheran University Community Leaders Club. In 1993, the Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce named her Woman of the Year.
Joanie Young's commitment to the community has not stopped there. For more than a decade she was a director of United Way of Ventura County, serving as campaign co-chair, and represented Ventura County on the State Board of United Way of California for two years. Joanie is a board member of Senior Concerns and is co-chair of their capital fund.
