Thomas Hughes first came to California in June of 1967 from Chicago, Illinois after joining the United States Marine Corps. His first three-day leave was to visit his brother in Carmel Valley. After a 13-month tour in Vietnam, he returned to the U.S. in 1969 and was honorably discharged from the Marine Camp in LeJuene, North Carolina.
Thomas moved back to Chicago and attended Triton College. While working as a crane operator he worked for two years on the IBM building before the beautiful summers and mild winters called him back to Carmel Valley. In 1975, he earned his real estate license and attended Monterey Peninsula College, taking over 30 units of real estate classes. He has earned the California Association of Realtors Graduate, Realtors Institute GRI Real Estate designation. The GRI is considered to be the most advanced comprehensive training program available to real estate agents in North America.
Thomas joined The Mitchell Group, now Sotheby's International Realty, in 1999 and has had nothing but the finest support from his team for his clients and their transactions.
Since 2002 Thomas has been a Director for the Board of the Veterans Transition Center (VTC) at Fort Ord. His aim is to help homeless veterans and their families. In the past two years, his program has helped 1,405 single veterans and 263 families. Sotheby's International Realty agents are among the largest supporters of the VTC.
