The small hamlet of South Salem, located in the center of the town of Lewisboro, has a beautiful country-like atmosphere. The main street consists of a general store, an antiques shop and an old gas station that no longer operates. Across the street is the South Salem Presbyterian Church. The church, with its neighboring Revolutionary-era cemetery, remains a focal point for the community of Colonial and Victorian homes that surround it. The town park has a ball field, a swimming pool, basketball and volleyball courts, new tennis courts, a playground, a picnic area and a pond for fishing, creating an ideal setting for South Salem real estate. The town of Lewisboro, which is shaped like a boomerang, is located in the northeastern quadrant of Westchester County and consists of four other villages in addition to South Salem, including Waccabuc, Goldens Bridge, Cross River and Vista. The town’s territory includes six lakes and sprawling horse farms. Located 40 miles north of Manhattan, Lewisboro offers a rural flavor while maintaining a workable commute into New York City. Although there is a large quantity of homes, the overwhelming sense of Lewisboro is of being in horse country.
