Cross River, a tiny village in the town of Lewisboro, is located 40 miles north of Manhattan. The students of Cross River share the same middle school and high school as neighboring villages. Lewisboro's territory includes six lakes and sprawling horse farms. Although there is a large quantity of residential real estate, the overwhelming sense of Lewisboro's is of being in horse country. Horseback riders can be seen on the town's dirt roads or crossing major roads. Riders also can use the trails at the 4,500-acre Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, a county-owned park, a portion of which is in Lewisboro. There are also four town parks, with a total of 179 acres. In addition to hiking and riding trails, the parks have playgrounds, ball fields and tennis courts.
