Situated near the Hudson River, 23 miles north of New York City, is the small town of Briarcliff Manor. Distinguished by period street lighting, quaint shops and real estate, and the absence of parking meters in the village's shopping district, Briarcliff Manor seems reminiscent of an earlier time. Briarcliff Manor lies in two towns, Ossining and Mount Pleasant, and two public school districts. The village is also home to a division of Pace University, once known as Briarcliff College. Originally known as Brier Cliff, the one-square-mile area was named Briarcliff Manor in 1848 and incorporated as a Village in 1902 as part of the Town of Ossining. Today the Village encompasses almost six square miles with approximately 2,300 Briarcliff Manor homes and 7,000 residents. Scarborough, a picturesque waterside district within the Village, is listed on the National Historic Register.
