Brewster is a 134-acre, half-square-mile area, located just inside the border of Putnam County. The independent and separately governed village lies midway between Long Island Sound and the Hudson River, bordering Westchester County on the south and Danbury, CT on the east. With its properties having charming architecture and the Milltown Historic District, Brewster played a critical role during the American Revolution. Founded in 1848 by Walter Brewster, it thrived as a newly built railroad passed through. It saw further growth at the turn of the century as the Croton Reservoir system was built. Located at the crossroads of Interstates 684 and 84, the village has seen tremendous residential growth since 1968. Approximately 2,000 residents of Brewster enjoy suburban living, a bucolic real estate setting and a bustling commercial center.
