Memorial West

The “Memorial Area” is generally regarded as those neighborhoods that lie between the 610-Loop on the east, Highway 6 on the west, I-10 on the north, and Buffalo Bayou on the south. “Memorial West” refers to those neighborhoods west of Gessner Road and east of Highway 6.

Along Gessner Road and Beltway-8, upscale shopping, dining and entertainment abound, along with Hermann Memorial Hospital and Health Center at Memorial City. Beltway-8 provides the area with quick access to all parts of the city, the airports are within a 30-minute drive, I-10 is immediately accessible, and I-59 is only minutes away.

As Memorial Drive winds westward past Gessner Road through beautiful wooded terrain, quiet streets lead to special neighborhoods serviced by the Spring Branch Independent School District: Frostwood, Tealwood, Fonn Villas, and Memorial Pines. West of Beltway-8, Memorial Bend, Gaywood, Yorkchester, Yorkshire, Wilchester, Nottingham, Nottingham Forest, and Westchester are also part of the SBISD system and offer a public green-space along the bayou with a jogging trail and horse stables.

Memorial Thicket, Thornwood, Barker’s Landing, Fleetwood, and Marywood are the westernmost Memorial neighborhoods, serviced by the Houston Independent School District and, for Barker’s Landing, Fleetwood and Marywood, the Katy Independent School District. Continued western expansion of the city, excellent school systems, and large, beautiful lots all ensure the continued viability and popularity of the Memorial area.
