Champions Forest - 1960

Northwest Houston’s “Champions” area began almost 50 years ago with the debut of Champions Golf Club and its tournament-level golf course. The club’s popularity and prestige extended the “Champions” name to include the entire area between Highway 249 and Interstate 45. A number of golf-focused subdivisions comprise the Champions area, including Champion Forest, Olde Oaks, Northgate Forest; prices range from near $200,000 to the several millions for large golf-course lots. Excellent shopping, dining and entertainment abound along FM 1960, the area’s major thoroughfare, and in several major shopping centers.

Among the fine country clubs and golf courses found in the Champions area today, the jewel-in-the-crown is still the Champions Golf Club, one of the most tradition-laden golf facilities in America. Founded in 1958 by Jack Burke, Jr., and the late Jimmy Demaret, a three-time Masters winner, Champions Golf Club has hosted a number of prestigious golf tournaments, including the Ryder Cup, The United States Open, the Nabisco Championship, the U.S. Amateur, THE TOUR Championship, U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur, and the Champions International. The club’s Cypress Creek course, designed by Ralph Plummer, measures 7,200 yards and plays to a par of 36-35—71. Its wide fairways and enormous greens consistently qualify it as a premier tournament site.

With a wide range of choices in home styles, sizes and neighborhoods, residents commonly upsize or downsize within the area. Champion Forest Villas, patio homes offering a low-maintenance lifestyle, are particularly popular with local empty-nesters.

Champions-area students are served by the Klein and Cy-Fair Independent School Districts and by a number of private and parochial schools.

Slightly rolling terrain, gorgeous homes, first-class golf courses, and proximity to everything make Champions/1960 one of Houston’s most well-planned, elegant, and vibrant neighborhoods.
