Bourne and Mashpee
In addition to the Upper Cape towns of Sandwich and Falmouth, two other prominent towns are Bourne and Mashpee. The town of Bourne can be found on both sides of the Cape Cod Canal and features many beautiful coves and harbors, as well as a half-dozen public beaches and innumerable public boat ramps. It is also home to Massachusetts Maritime Academy overlooking the Cape Cod Canal. There are a number of public and private golf courses scattered throughout the town. Mashpee has over 5 miles of beaches fronting on Nantucket and Vineyard Sound, and 4 of the largest fresh water ponds on the Cape. It is also home to the Wampanoag Nation, who greeted the pilgrims upon their arrival in Plymouth. It features Mashpee Commons, a commercial shopping center with many upscale and national stores and of note is its traditional New England Style Architecture. Golf courses abound, including the 2 private courses at New Seabury Country Club and Willowbend Country Club. One of the more picturesque courses, Quashnet Valley Country Club meanders through the bogs, ponds, and rivers of the Valley.
