Jay is a native Floridian and has family ties to Palm Beach that date back to the early 1900s. It was during that period that his great great grandfather, Frederick Bedford, would travel to Palm Beach via personal railcar. Around 1939 Jay's grandfather, Briggs Cunningham, built a home on Pendleton Lane. In 1979 at the age of ten, Jay moved to Pendleton Lane with his family. Jay attended the Palm Beach Day School and spent his free time fishing on the beach and Intracoastal Waterway. After high school and college at the University of Miami, Jay purchased Kleiser's Sporting Goods in downtown West Palm Beach. Kleiser's was opened in 1936 and was the second oldest retail operation in the area. Kleiser's became Dewing's Fly & Gun Shop, and Jay owned and operated the shop from 1997 to 2008. Dewing's catered to world-class sportsmen locally and from around the globe and sold only the finest fly fishing and shooting products. In the summer of 2009 Jay joined Sotheby's International Realty's Palm Beach brokerage, utilizing his 30-plus years of local knowledge on the island and surrounding areas to better serve his clientele. Jay, along with his wife, son and daughter, lives today on Palm Beach's beautiful north end.
