Dinner and a view: 3 NYC restaurants boasting scenic vistas

On just about every block in New York City, impressive feats of modern architecture are regularly on display. The metropolitan area is home to some of the world's tallest buildings and most attractive bridges, not to mention Central Park, which offers urbanites the chance to spend time enjoying beautiful scenery in the middle of the concrete jungle.

Due to the fact that the city is also routinely lauded for its selection of fine dining opportunities and gourmet eateries, it was only a matter of time before cunning restaurateurs sought to combine the two luxuries. Now, a number of local establishments boasting creative culinary dishes and breathtaking views are gaining popularity with many area residents, from owners of Manhattan townhouses to those who reside across the river.

Next time you find yourself anywhere in NYC's five boroughs, you would be remiss to skip out on sitting down to a meal at the following three restaurants.

1. The River Cafe - Having received critical acclaim from the likes of The New York Times, this eatery, which was founded on the banks of Brooklyn, provides diners with exclusive views of Lower Manhattan and a memorable experience. First opened in June 1977 by Michael "Buzzy" O'Keeffe, the establishment has enjoyed unbridled success ever since. Hailed as one of the most romantic spots in NYC, the innovative menus boast such food items as crisp duck breast with white truffle honey and fennel pollen glaze, as well as goat cheese cheesecake.

2. Battery Gardens - Located in the southernmost corner of Battery Park in Manhattan, this waterfront restaurant offers patrons sweeping views of New York Harbor, including the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Executive chef Ari Nieminen has curated the eatery's exquisite seasonal menus, drawing from his native Finland as well as his training at the Culinary Institute of America. Popular dishes include lobster risotto and hot sautéed Hudson Valley duck foie gras, among numerous others. As an added bonus, during the summer, the establishment doubles as a beer garden every afternoon, providing diners with brewed delicacies and hearty, high-end pub grub.

3. The View - Perched atop the Marriot Marquis, this revered eatery affords each patron a 360-degree view of the city - no matter where they're seated. As NYC's only revolving restaurant, visitors can enjoy feasting on contemporary American cuisine while checking out some of the metropolitan area's luxury real estate and most iconic landmarks 48 stories above sea level. Boasting menus composed of fresh local ingredients and savory cocktails and wines, this establishment bills itself as the ultimate dining experience. The meals that are most often ordered include steamed red grouper with gingered mountain yams and wild boar chop atop cauliflower risotto.
