Joseph Baker

Joseph Baker is honored to return to Sotheby's International Realty as a Senior Vice President. Reflecting on the reality of his experiences in the industry, he finds that old-fashioned values count for everything: hard work, integrity, service, attention to details and morality. Joseph Baker has been putting his clients' interests first for over 25 years.

Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, Joseph came to New York City to pursue graduate studies in Near-Eastern Archaeology, after which he obtained an MBA in Marketing and Finance from Columbia University's Graduate School of Business.

Afterwards, concurrent with an earlier downturn in the Manhattan economy, Joseph used his MBA skills by literally falling into real estate as a typist for a midtown investment real estate brokerage firm. Once licensed, Joseph sold properties ranging from office buildings to multi-family residential buildings, blocks of residential apartments and loft buildings.

Joseph then moved on to residential real estate, and it has been his honor to represent both buyers and sellers in the sales of hundreds of residences, from studios and one-bedrooms to 14-room apartments on Park Avenue, from townhouses Uptown and Downtown to an 8,000+/- sq. ft. condominium in Tribeca. More recently, one month after the debacle on Wall Street began, he and his partner Isabel Carden sold a two-bedroom cooperative in a very prestigious building off Fifth Avenue. They had 28 showings and four offers.

Joseph has also rented a wide variety of Manhattan apartments over the years, notably a triplex penthouse on Fifth Avenue opposite the Metropolitan Museum, a Tribeca penthouse comprising a 4,100+/- sq. ft. interior with 3,000+/- sq. ft. outside, and recently a furnished classic-six home in a prestigious, prewar condominium off Sutton Place that was a record for the building.
