Sotheby’s International Realty

Barbara Anderson Terry

Barbara began her career on the North Shore of Long Island with Daniel Gale, a Sotheby's International Realty affiliate, in the 1970s. She then became a partner of DG Associates, opening and managing the first office in Nassau County.

In 1990, having just moved to Manhattan, Barbara joined Sotheby's International Realty for a short time. Also during the 1990s she formed an investment company with a partner, New York Investment Properties (NYIP), while simultaneously pursuing and receiving her Master's in Real Estate Development and Investment from New York University.

In May 2001 Barbara established Anderson Realty LLC to carry on as the investment and development company, and Anderson Terry, LLC, as a residential brokerage firm, which operated independently for almost eight years before evolving into The Anderson Terry Team at Sotheby's International Realty in January 2009.

Barbara remains intensely focused on service, integrity and discretion, making her one of the most respected professionals in the industry. She is credentialed in all three courses from NAR's Graduate Real Estate Institute, GRI 1, 11 and 111.

Barbara currently serves on the Rockefeller University Council and Women's Committee. Past charitable interests include New York MoMA's Contemporary Arts Council, Central Park Conservatory Woman's Committee and Tour Guide, and Academic Rewards for College Students in New York and San Francisco.

While in San Francisco during the 1980s Barbara served as VP for the San Francisco Opera Guild, chairing the Development Committee, the SFMoMA Benefactor's Committee and Collector's Forum, and many other charitable committees.

Today, Barbara focuses on charities involving neurological health issues. She supports the Bruce McKeon Research Laboratory at Rockefeller, the Bachmann Strauss Dystonia and Parkinson's Foundation and Fountain House.

Barbara is the proud mother of BJ Casey and Chip De Meo and grandmother to Charlotte Blythe, William and James Casey. Barbara's husband, Frederick "Ted" Terry, is Senior Counsel at Sullivan & Cromwell. The Terrys live in Manhattan and East Hampton. The Jack Caseys live in New Canaan, CT, and Chip lives in Maui and Oahu in Hawaii. The family enjoys ski trips, golf and tennis together.
