Geographically, West Houston is an area covering approximately 700 square miles, bounded by Bunker Hill Road on the east, the city of Brookshire on the west, State Highway 249 and Juergen Road on the north, and the Bissonnet Corridor on the south.

As impressive as its dimensions are the statistics describing its growth and development. West Houston is home to over 700,000 residents. Between 1979 and 1983, 48 percent of Houston’s corporate relocations chose West Houston as their new site. Today, it offers employment to over 240,000 people.

Formed in 1979, the West Houston Association, a non-profit organization of major corporations, landowners, and professional consultants, provides leadership to assure that quality development continues by setting high standards for public services and environmental safeguards. In addition, the Association works closely with governmental agencies to improve transportation, regional access, flood control, and water resource management. It also works closely with other organizations seeking to attract new business interests to this highly desirable region of the city.

The resulting business and residential environment has been called “city style with country class.” Because of the commitment to quality expansion and development, West Houston’s population growth accounts for more than half of the region’s total growth. West Houston is growing at a rate of over 30,000 people per year and increased in size over 72 percent between 1980 and 1990. This growth accounted for 53 percent of the total population growth in the entire Houston Primary Metropolitan Statistical Area (PMSA) which includes Fort Bend, Harris, Liberty, Montgomery, and Waller Counties. Today West Houston is home to almost one-quarter of all Houston PMSA residents!
