Steve Dyer, a third generation Houstonian, grew up in Hunter’s Creek Village riding his bicycle to Memorial Drive Elementary School. At an early age he became familiar with The Memorial Villages, Tanglewood and River Oaks from exploration on his trusty bike. His experience as a young “guide” comes from adventures on foot and canoe along Buffalo Bayou between The Racquet Club and Houston Country Club. Cynthia Mitchell was his Cub Scout Troop Den Mother. She and her husband, George, took her young charges on campouts at their “farm,” which became the master-planned community, The Woodlands. He attended The Kinkaid School, Memorial High School and is a graduate of St. Edward’s University in Austin.
Steve is an expert scuba diving and wildlife adventure guide, and has been described in numerous newspaper and magazine articles as a sailor, explorer, and storyteller. He has been an onboard naturalist guide in the Galapagos Islands, a research diver for the Australian Institute of Marine Science, and conducted extensive tours of Africa, Asia and throughout Latin America. Steve spent several years in Peru and Cuba where he assisted multiple orphanages with his family, and guided doctors to remote villages from the Andes to the Amazon. The description of Steve’s book, “Secret Passages of Stevie the Guide” is more than intriguing. It can be found on Amazon.com
