A highly experienced and dedicated professional, Catherine Debackere joined Sotheby’s International Realty - East Hampton in 2007 after many years in New York City as a top producing real estate broker with premier agencies and as a residential developer’s representative for several notable condominium projects. A licensed broker since 1996, Catherine has earned a solid reputation for full-service, results-driven representation managing a wide scope of listing, sale and rental transactions. Montauk is a special focus for Catherine where she recently represented and sold the main house and barn at the historic Startop Ranch, an iconic equestrian compound and one of Montauk’s most important properties.
With a keen eye on the market pulse, Catherine creates engagement for her real estate practice using a multi-tiered marketing strategy optimizing traditional and online/social media outlets to generate new business opportunities. She is co-founder of an ever-expanding global Sotheby’s International Realty networking group that meets regularly to share new business opportunities, showcase properties and produce a bi-annual portfolio to connect discerning buyers with distinctive properties. The group affords her a close connection with the NYC market and buyers seeking second homes in the Hamptons. Catherine credits her networking partners with her continued growth as a successful buyer/seller referral agent.
Catherine’s network is also deeply rooted in the art world, a passion both personally and professionally. She played an integral role in developing the first on-site Sotheby’s Real Estate Property Showcase at internationally acclaimed Art Hamptons, a three-day annual event attracting over 14,000 art collectors, dealers, celebrities and visitors. While a Manhattan resident, Catherine was instrumental in the opening of the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian designed by Cass Gilbert and installed at the Customs House in Lower Manhattan. Catherine continues to build lifelong relationships via her involvement in the arts.
A longtime East End resident, Catherine and her family are active community participants. She enjoys sharing her favorite spots to experience the magnificent coastal landscapes, vast expanses of farmland and the exquisite light that attracts artists and delights all who live and play on the East End.
Catherine's affiliations include the Indian Harbor Yacht Club in Greenwich, CT, Ladies Village Improvement Society (LVIS), the Springs Mystery Art Sale, Children’s Museum of the East End (CMEE), South Fork Nature Museum, the Modern, Smithsonian NMAI, the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum and the Halstead Property Producer's Council.
