Greenwich recognized as leader in fashion, dining

Although it is about 30 miles from New York City's legendary 5th Avenue, Greenwich mirrors that high-fashion mecca in many ways. Much like that famous string of shops, downtown Greenwich is rife with independent boutiques and top-shelf stores filled with the most modern and fashionable items, which allow people who own luxury homes in the area to stock up on designer items without having to fight the Manhattan crowds.

A great number of Greenwich residents have lived or worked in New York City - or at least share that city's love of high fashion. Over the years, Greenwich has developed a strong base of luxury retailers, and a recent announcement suggests that that number will only grow.

Hermes of Paris, a legendary purveyor of French fashion, is coming to Greenwich, according to the Greenwich Patch. Work has already begun on the storefront, which is located on Greenwich Avenue, and the store is expected to be open to the public by spring 2013.

Some Greenwich residents have already had the opportunity to get a sneak peek at the retailer, as workers have started preparing the high-ceilinged interior for business. Surrounded by other fashion-oriented shops like Ralph Lauren, Tory Burch and Kate Spade, Hermes of Paris will help Greenwich cement its legacy as one of the Northeast's fashion hot spots.

Of course, people in Greenwich are already excited about the new store.

"[Hermes is] a great fit with the other stores offering high-end fashions and design," said Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Marcia O'Kane, according to the source. "Their location is really optimal."
