Eldorado and the Hwy. 285 Corridor, with its wide open spaces, beautiful mountain views, spectacular sunsets and night sky, is approximately 20 minutes from the Santa Fe Plaza. The Corridor, which includes Eldorado, Hwy. 285, and the historic villages of Lamy and Galisteo, consists of approximately 4,000 home sites. Zoning is primarily rural single family residential and lots range in size from 1+ to 25 acres, with most subdivisions having very reasonable covenants. There is a strong sense of community with regular gatherings at the Eldorado’s Community Center, the Eldorado Community School (public K-8), Vista Grande Public Library and the Adams Senior Center. There are two convenient shopping centers, The Agora and La Tienda, located at the 2nd entrance to Eldorado, that provide a wide variety of services, including a grocery store, post office, restaurants, medical offices, pharmacy and bank. There is a gas station and hardware store conveniently located on Hwy. 285. Eldorado, the largest of the subdivisions with 2,770 lots, was created in the early 70’s with the subsequent “solar community” bringing greater attention to the entire Corridor as homes were built with passive and active solar designs and features. Homes in Eldorado are priced from $250,000 to the mid $600,000 range, and are sited on 1-3 acre lots. Eldorado amenities include hike/bike trails, greenbelts, clubhouse, swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts, soccer fields, a dog park, stables and a 4,000 acre Conservation area for hiking, biking and horseback riding. Galisteo Village is nestled in the cottonwoods along the Galisteo River, about twenty miles southeast of Santa Fe. A beautiful 20 minute drive takes you to this peaceful, secluded area. Rich in local history, with a multitude of petroglyphs left by the Tano Indians, forebearers of Pueblo Indians of today, the Galisteo valley was known to every Spanish explorer and adventurer. A mission church was built and a priest sent to live in Galisteo around 1617. Started by Europeans, present day Galisteo is a mile and a half from the Tano Indian pueblo site. Famous as a home and destination for artists, historians, movie makers and spiritual seekers - and its annual rodeo - it is a photographer’s delight with sweeping vistas, dramatic skies and exquisite light. Old adobe homes mingle with newer ones in Galisteo, as it remains unhurried, unpretentious, and little changed from a century ago. There are approximately 20 much smaller subdivisions in the area. Most of these feature larger lots (2-25 acres). Some are horses properties. There are private horse facilities in the area as well. Homes in these subdivisions can range from the $300,000 over a $1 million.
