Shady Lane Estates

Early land history shows that on August 10, 1824, title to a league (4,428 acres) of land in Harris County, Texas was granted to a John D. Taylor. According to the March, 1826 census, Taylor was listed as “a farmer and stock raiser, aged between twenty-five and forty”.

Today this property is a quiet residential area consisting of approximately 80 acres of that original land grant composing two neighborhoods, Piney Point Estates and Shady Lane Estates. Each of these subdivisions off Shady Lane, close to Fondren and Westheimer, provides a lifestyle that is consistent with the new millennium.

Piney Point Estates, the older of the two, has lots which are one-half acre or more with some home sites as large as three acres. Many of the homes are new or recent construction and many of the older homes have been updated. There are second and third generation residents in this heavily treed area, much of which is in a natural state. Living in Piney Point Estates is like living in the country with all the attributes of the city.

Shady Lane Estates is a walled and gated community of only twenty-five home sites which was established in the early 1990s. The one and two-story homes are on a horseshoe street of patio or garden home sized lots.

Access to this enclave of neighborhoods is limited as Shady Lane ends at Buffalo Bayou, which makes it a traffic-free quiet reserve. The peaceful whisper of pine trees on Shady Lane provides a mantle of peace.

Both Shady Lane Estates and Piney Point Estates have very active homeowners associations who work diligently to maintain the integrity and serenity of this “oasis” in the city.
