Getting a real taste of Santa Ynez17 Sep 2012 8:07 AM
The local eating movement has traversed the country and turned many communities into comprehensive food systems. Meats, cheeses, fruits and vegetables are all planted, raised, harvested, prepared and served within a tiny radius. In a similar vein, Avant Tapas and Wine, located at 35 Industrial Way in Buellton, California, is working to promote the impressive offerings of small wineries throughout the Santa Ynez area.
The restaurant was designed to showcase many of the wines produced in and around Santa Ynez and pair them with fresh, local ingredients.
"The winemakers were asking about tasting options," the restaurant's manager, Joe Padilla, told the Santa Ynez Valley Magazine. "The nature of a custom-crush facility like ours is that it's all small wineries that are making wines here. A lot of them don't - and won't - have tasting rooms of their own."
In this way, Avant Tapas serves as a comfortable, comprehensive tasting room for residents of the luxury homes in the area - it gives them an ideal place to sit, relax and sample some of the best reds and whites from the region.
Of course, Avant Tapas isn't all about the wines. Renowned chefs work in the venue's kitchen to create a range of dishes from a variety of culinary traditions. Additionally, in keeping with the local nature of the wine, the dishes are all prepared using ingredients born and raised in Santa Barbara County.
"Ninety-five percent, if not more, of our produce is grown locally," Padilla told the source. "All our beef, lamb and pork come from within 20 miles of us."
As if the fresh, locally produced food and drink wasn't enough, Avant also hosts an eclectic variety of performances and events, including tastings and concerts. Santa Ynez residents looking for a true taste of the region may want to stop by Avant Tapas for a memorable night.
