Marina is a bustling city with a small town feel. This residential community is home to California State University at Monterey Bay, located on the former Fort Ord. Incorporated in 1975, Marina is the newest city on the Monterey Peninsula. Proud of its cultural diversity, Marina has a very scenic state park beach and its own airport, with an adjacent business park. Known for its famous dunes, where hang gliders take off from the cliffs above the Pacific Ocean, Marina is the gateway to the Monterey Peninsula. Visitors are kept entertained with activities including fishing, surfing, bird watching, beach going and whale watching. This ecologically sensitive region overlooks one of the largest marine sanctuaries in the Monterey Bay. Marina State Beach has great appeal for hang gliders and kite fliers as well as picnickers.
