Gail was raised and educated in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, moving to New York City after college. She worked for United Airlines for eight years, in sales, vacation planning and public relations.
She lived in Texas and Connecticut, before settling in Concord, MA, which was her home for many years. She has two sons, Gregory and Jay Johnson, who still call the Boston area their home, along with a very special granddaughter. Gail has always been an avid horsewoman and an enthusiastic community volunteer. She is currently a sustaining member on the Woman's Board of the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Santa Barbara Symphony League and Ensemble Theatre Board of Directors.
Gail's real estate career began in Concord and flourished there for twelve years. She was associated with J.M. Barrett & Company, where she specialized in period properties and land sales.
Gail moved to Santa Barbara and married the late Walter Beust in 1988. After being licensed in California, she joined Pitts & Bachmann Realtors in 1990. Sotheby's International Realty acquired Pitts & Bachmann Realtors in January of 2006.
Gail continues to enjoy the Santa Barbara lifestyle with all of the art, music and theatre, and especially the weather, greatly appreciated by transplanted easterners.
