Take advantage of all Pasadena has to offer this summer

The City of Pasadena has exceptional public programs available to residents looking forward to spending the summer exploring the area or learning a new craft. Whether you are interested in joining a group dedicated to physical activity, listening to music or exploring different cultures, there are many options. Here are three summer activities that you may find interesting in Pasadena.

Parks After Dark
Sponsored by the City of Pasadena’s Human Services and Recreation Department, the Pasadena Police Department and the Department of Transportation, the Parks After Dark program endeavors to provide social engagement opportunities to the local community. Held from July 7, 2012 to August 24, 2012 on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, residents can take a class or get their daily dose of exercise.

From 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., parks located around the city are holding classes and entertainment options such as an adult basketball league, Movies in the Park or belly dance classes in Robinson Park at 1081 North Fair Oaks Avenue. This isn’t the only city park holding events such as these - consider locating a park near your luxury home to participate. For example, the Loma Alta Park, located at 3330 Lincoln Avenue holds Zumba classes, family softball games and a cardio stick fighting class.

Pasadena Idol
The City of Pasadena offers many musical opportunities such as Pasadena Idol. Held on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Paseo Colorado, at 280 East Colorado Boulevard, the talent show starts at 5 p.m. and features local teen talent. Styles and genres of music can greatly range, so there is likely to be something for everyone.

Fiestas Patrias 2012
Discover the influences of foreign cultures on the area at the Fiestas Patrias. This year, the festival will celebrate the independence of 18 Latin American countries including Belize, Brazil, Chile and Costa Rica at the Villa Parke Community Center multi-purpose field. Located adjacent to Garfield Avenue, the event is sponsored by the City of Pasadena and takes place on Saturday, September 15, 2012 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will feature live music, dance performances, children’s activities, a boxing demonstration and a soccer exhibition. Quickly becoming a local tradition, the Fiestas Patrias can be a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.
