In addition to the annual Rose Bowl sporting event, the city of Pasadena plays host to a number of charitable athletic events each year. This California community's scenic beauty, favorable weather and proximity to Los Angeles make it a popular venue for outdoor events, and routinely draws the likes of famous personalities, television and film actors, as well as successful business executives.
Now, with the spring season just around the corner, many are looking forward to spending more time outside spectating and participating in recreational activities. The upcoming Nick Searcy Courage Invitational, held on March 15 at the Brookside Golf Club in Pasadena, will allow individuals to do just that.
Tournament to host familiar faces, offer high-end entertainment
Presented by Pasadena Magazine, the celebrity-filled event will feature Peabody Award-winning international film and television star Nick Searcy - who can currently be seen on the FX show "Justified" - along with the cast of the PBS show "Courage, New Hampshire." Area residents are invited to attend the event, with the choice to either play in the tournament or simply rub elbows with the rich and famous present at the social function.
Those who plan on partaking in the competition can enjoy following the best ball team format, which ensures all golfers will be able to have a substantial amount of fun while keeping the contest a friendly affair.
The golf club, which is owned by the city of Pasadena, was designed by the revered architect William P. Bell and boasts two 18-hole courses. Visitors can take advantage of the two putting greens, practice bunker and chipping area, along with the offerings found within the cutting-edge pro shop. Additionally, the club features an upscale restaurant that provides breathtaking panoramic views of the nearby San Gabriel mountains, as well as the courses' manicured greens, fairways and assortment of picturesque pine, oak and eucalyptus trees.
The day of the event, festivities will kick-off at 11 a.m., when the registration booth opens and participants will be allowed to warm up and get some practice in on the driving range. At noon, a shotgun start will officially commence the competition, sending golfers out into the links. Following the end of the contest, a cocktail reception will be held at 5 p.m., offering all teams the opportunity to revel in or reconcile with their individuals results. At 6 p.m., the BBQ Awards Dinner will begin and afterward, around 8 p.m., all will be treated to a live performance by the local band Saucy Jack, and be given the chance to dance the night away.
Event to act as fundraiser for worthwhile cause
Individuals interested in attending this high-profile occasion can sign up to play in the tournament for $200 each, which includes entry to the awards dinner. Those looking to spectate the day's events and only attend the awards dinner and afterparty can reserve their admission for $75. All who purchase a ticket - whether they plan to come as a golfer or observer -will be given a golf cap emblazoned with the Courage, New Hampshire logo.
Entry fees will be tax deductible, as they are to be put toward covering costs for the future production of Courage, New Hampshire.
Jonathan Wilson, an agent at Sotheby's International Realty and executive producer for Courage, New Hampshire, expressed his anticipation for the upcoming event, which promises to be as recreationally enjoyable as it will be charitable.
"We're bringing together the local business community for a fun day of golf and celebration to raise money for a worthy cause," said Wilson. "Tournament proceeds go toward continued production of the historical drama 'Courage, New Hampshire,' which is locally-produced and currently being syndicated through American public television. Presented by Pasadena Magazine, we think this event could become an annual spring tradition in Pasadena."
In addition to helping coordinate the invitational, the Sotheby's Pasadena office will participate by sponsoring a hole and entering a foursome of locally-based agents led by manager Jeff Maynard.

Businesses or individuals looking to sponsor a hole can do so for $500, and benefit from being listed on sponsor signage, custom tee boxes and in the event program, as well as receiving recognition at the awards dinner. Those hoping to sponsor the cast for $200 can enjoy being listed in the event program and on sponsor signage, in addition to being recognized during the evening reception.
