New George Bernard Shaw production comes to Monterey

With its multicultural and culture-loving residents, Santa Fe has justly earned a reputation for bringing in interesting and unique artists from across the world. On May 3, the GIG Performance Space will welcome the last in this long line of worldly artists, when internationally renowned sitar player Ustad Roshan Bhartiya takes the stage.

Although he remains relatively unknown in the States, Bhartiya has a global following who consider him one of the finest interpreters of classic Indian music. His work - which hews closely to Indian traditions but also incorporates more modern and global influences - has been heard for decades on Indian radio and in Bollywood movies. However, until recently, Bhartiya's music rarely made it into the American consciousness.

That could change, though, as Bhartiya embarks on a small Southwestern tour. He played recently at the Indian Classical Music Concert in Colorado, and attendees were able to catch a glimpse of this virtuoso sitar player and be impressed by his deep knowledge of Indian music. Owners of Santa Fe real estate will have the same opportunity, and it could be an event that changes the way they think about Indian music.
