The Cave celebrates five years of great wine and food pairings

Respected vineyards that produce high-end wines can be found throughout the state of California, but no other area boasts a larger concentration than Monterey. Ubiquitously referred to as "wine country," this region is regarded as the premier destination for oenophiles across the Golden State and entire country.

Accordingly, Monterey has long been the site of exclusive wine tastings and glamorous social events. Thus, in the spirit of the holidays and local tradition, that custom will continue this year. The second annual Holiday Taste of Wine Row, which invites area residents and visitors to celebrate the season with wineries located along Carmel Valley's East End Wine Row, will be held the afternoon of Saturday, Dec. 14. From 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., wine enthusiasts can enjoy visiting participating vineyards, sampling savory blends as well as gourmet hors d'oeuvres, shopping for exquisite gifts, viewing fine art and visiting with friends family in a comfortable, upscale setting.

Multitude of esteemed wineries to participate
Similar to the inaugural event,  this year's affair will afford attendees the chance to eat, drink and be merry while experiencing the different offerings from a number of local establishments. During the festivities, individuals can stroll between retail shops and seven world-class tasting rooms, discovering the subtleties to many of Monterey's most sought-after varietals, in addition to rare labels.

Participating wineries include Chesebro Wines, Cima Collina, Dawn's Dream Winery, Holman Ranch, Joyce Vineyards and Parsonage Family Winery. Popular restaurants will provide culinary creations for ticket holders to snack on, while Creekside Farms will offer shoppers a special holiday and foodie wreath display that is sure to make for a visually appealing and appetizing present.

The wines produced in this area are notably different from blends made in other parts of California, as the region's topography resists daytime zephyrs and fogs, making for masterful zinfandels, merlots, cabernet sauvignons and sauvignon blancs.

Ticket sales to benefit local food pantry
While many may have been drawn to the event purely because of its promise to be a fashionable social occasion, others may attend since it is also a fundraiser that will benefit The Hope Center Monterey. Tickets are available for $40 per person in advance of Saturday, and $50 at the door. Those interested in attending may want to reserve their spot as soon as possible, as space is limited, and only 250 tickets will be sold.

Although individuals must be 21 years of age or older to purchase tickets, children are welcome to attend the event in order to take a picture with Santa Claus, who will make a special appearance at the holiday event.

The Hope Center Monterey is a non-profit organization entirely composed of hard-working volunteers that aim to serve local families in need by regularly coordinating food drives and distributing donated items to individuals in need bimonthly. Considered to be far more than just a neighborhood food pantry, the group routinely provides information about community services, and looks to empower children by giving them chances to learn about hunger and work to combat it. In addition to the annual Holiday Taste of Wine Row, the organization benefits from the programs coordinated by the Monterey Peninsula Foundation.

Event tickets expected to sell out
As this is the second time the holiday celebration will be held at the upscale East End Wine Row in Monterey's Carmel Valley, organizers are likely looking forward to surpassing last year's attendance figures. Many of the area's recognizable personalities and affluent homeowners will join the scores of oenophiles in enjoying the season's cheerful and charitable spirit at this high-profile society gathering.
