Monterey hosts 21st annual Cherry's Jubilee1 Oct 2013 9:31 AM
During the weekend of September 14, hundreds of classic cars and thousands of automobile aficionados could be found within Monterey, Calif., as the 21st annual Cherry's Jubilee motorsport festival was held.
The yearly event draws exotic vehicle dealers and hopeful owners to the West Coast city, as multiple auctions are held and rare, vintage cars are put on display. The weekend of events was well attended, seeing a number of celebrities, business leaders, car collectors and owners of lavish Monterey real estate.
More than 500 attendees turned out for the recent celebration, according to The Monterey Herald, some of which traveled from as far away as Hawaii and Alaska for the chance to bid on automobiles.
"We absolutely love this event - the scenery, the food, the people, the atmosphere ... and, of course, the weather," Dennis Stinnett, coordinator for the Challengers Car Club, told the news source. "If I could afford it, I'd live here."
Weekend was full of upscale activities
Aside from the car shows and live auctions, there was a number of entertaining events being held around Monterey during the weekend. Those in attendance for the festival's start had the opportunity to partake in the 11th annual Nostalgic Nights Show & Shine official VIP kick-off party at the famed Otis Auto Sales. Saturday saw the yearly Poker Run, with local businesses getting in on the action. The final day of the event began with a pancake breakfast, saw the judging of the best of show, and concluded with the traditional announcement of Cherry's Awards.
Annual event benefits a good cause
However, there was more to the event than just classic and collectable vehicles. Every year since 1993, the event has raised money for the Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital Foundation, The Monterey Herald reported. Now, after the 21st event has concluded, more than $1 million has been collected in total.
Car week was held previous month
All of the excitement surrounding the auctions at the latest Cherry's Jubilee was initially drummed up one month prior, during Monterey Car Week, which took place August 13 to 19. During the annual celebration, attendees could choose to participate in numerous auctions, view multiple collections up-close, watch exhibition races, meet professional drivers and even enjoy gourmet fare at upscale gatherings. Next year's week-long observance is slated for August 11 to 17.
