Johnny Johnston hails from Vail, Colorado. He spent his youth in the Rockies, got into Brown University and headed east to study history, literature and architecture. Afterward, he moved to Los Angeles in search of the perfect Spanish villa. The search has lasted 15 years and taken him across the city. He has also attended seminary and received a master's degree in theology. He and his wife, fashion designer Heidi Merrick, and their daughter Hiver split their time between Santa Barbara, Vail and their Mediterranean-style compound in Silver Lake.
