Born and raised in the Midwest, Barry owned and operated an 18-wheeler hauling steel and later citrus until the trucker strike of 1978 forced him into early retirement. Barry then joined the Air Force and was again retired early due to a service connected injury. Barry went on to study accounting and marketing at the University of Cincinnati. In 1980, while attending school and chairing the campus concert committee, Barry started his career in the live concert industry, founding a production/marketing company that later merged with Chicago-based db Sound/db Production Group. In 1984, while employed as an assistant producer for Prince's Purple Rain Tour, Barry relocated to Los Angeles. During Barry's 20+ year career as vice president and eventually CEO and partner, db grew to be one of the largest concert/event sound and production companies in the industry, providing worldwide services to the Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Metallica and many others. In 2001 Barry retired from db and sold his interest in 2004. In addition to his career at db, Barry was involved with the management of various musical artists.
Starting in 1989, Barry found his passion for real estate, and since that time he has been involved with numerous transactions as both investor and consultant. Recently, he joined Sotheby's International Realty and now harnesses his passion for architecture, business acumen and negotiating skills to advise a range of existing and new clients in their real estate ventures. Having worked with challenging and demanding assignments, people and deadlines, Barry knows how to bring together the elements of a project to achieve a compelling and favorable outcome.
In addition to his work in real estate, Barry is involved with a variety of community, social, political and charitable causes, including HumanRightsActionCenter.org and JustABunchOfRoadies.org.
